Volunteering

The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a statewide corps of trained volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. Master naturalist volunteers are dedicated to providing 40+ hours of service to their community each year, and keep current on environmental topics by completing at least 8 hours of advanced training each year.

Our local chapter, the Middle Peninsula Master Naturalists, volunteers with the Clean Community office to help coordinate cleanup and greenup projects throughout Gloucester.

For more information about volunteering with the Middle Peninsula Master Naturalists, contact midpenmn@gmail.com

You can also volunteer directly for the Clean Community Office! We can use enthusiastic, friendly helpers for a variety of initiatives. Please email cleancommunity@gloucesterva.info or call the Clean Community Coordinator at 804-693-5370 to learn about current volunteer opportunities.

For court-mandated community service, ask your probation officer to call Parks, Recreation & Tourism at 804-693-2107 for verification. We do not provide community service work to minors. After speaking to your P.O., we will get in touch with you to discuss scheduling. Be aware that nearly all of our community service work takes place outdoors so you must dress accordingly and provide your own drinks, snacks, work gloves, and sunscreen. The work could be weeding, picking up litter, emptying trash cans, and using tools such as string trimmers, bow saws, shovels, rakes, and pressure washers.
